What happened yesterday?
First went to camp where we received mandarin and angbaos with $5 NTUC vouchers.
Later headed to a funeral of someone from our sister unit. A bus brought us to the bishan temple. We were there to show our support to the family and we lined up along the road where we saluted him as his coffin passed us.
When word was spreading i had no idea who he was, until his picture carried by a young lady(his sister). I was shocked, i had done my NDP sweep duties with him twice. Although i didnt know him personally, i felt a great loss to the SAF and to the world, he was a nice guy- a regular who just got promoted to Staff Sgt just before his motorbike accident.
I could still remember myself calling him "staff" as i somehow thought he was a Staff Sgt, he then quietly told me " bo yao jiao wo staff leh, wo zi si first sgt eh yi". It meant "don't call me staff, im just a first sgt". Soft spoken guy, i thought.
We headed back to camp after and subsequently headed down to marina south for steam boat for my unit's CNY celebrations, contradicting yes, but i guessed it cant be helped. The death/ funeral was not meant to be, and the dinner was booked way in advance for a good 100+ people.
And so we looked past the sad event and looked forward to a happy one.
Everyone had a good time eating and drinking. The highlight for me was when my men gave my platoon sgt a leaving gift as he will be posting out soon, they gave him a tshirt which was mainly to give us an excuse to pour drinks at him. He understood the intentions and walked to the middle sportingly, 3 seconds later about ten cups of lime juice came flying in his direction! I threw one myself, haha! And that felt good! The amount of bad blood he created through his tour accumulated into a huge ball, but ultimately he tried to explain himself. Nonetheless, what's done is done, let us all forget the animosity with that last splash!
After the dinner i headed to Party World at Orchard with Nigel, Bihao, Donovan, Wilson and Ah boon. Sang like crazy shouting at the mike, with moments of serious songs here and there and back to crazy songs with us shouting ORD into the mikes, retarded yes, but hellofa FUN!
